Flash Websites Are Dead

Why Flash is a Bad Decision for Current Websites & Businesses

You want your website to stand out. You want it to reflect you, your company & your brand. Sometimes that results in business owners making bad website choices - like making a website using Adobe Flash. In fact, I would say that if you have a Flash website, you should strongly consider having a new design done for your site immediately. Flash is dead!

I recently visited with a potential customer who had their site built using Flash. He owned a photography studio (Back in the day, Flash websites were commonly used among photographers because it helped protect their photos from being stolen from their website). He knew he had to have his site redone but didn't know all the dangers and problems with Flash. Once I showed him why Flash is bad, he quickly signed up to have Web Wisconsin design a new website for him. This was a smart business decision!

Flash is a bad idea but it's more than just personal opinion or preference. Let me share some of what I revealed to him during our meeting. Here's a few reasons why Flash is bad:

Search Engines Cannot Read Flash Content
If Google or other search engines can't read you content, you won't rank very high in web searches. SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is so important now-a-days that Flash is a crucial mistake to your game plan of getting visitors from search results. Your website is the virtual home for your business, so if people can't find you, or have a poor experience on your site, it's likely they won't hire you!

Slow Load Times
Slow load times will almost always result in people leaving your site. Flash rarely loads at the speed of an normal HTML site. You have about 6 seconds to engage with your audience and convince them to stay on your site. If your site doesn't load in 6 seconds? That visitor is lost... Gone!

No Mobile Site
Flash websites are not mobile-friendly. 81% of searches are done using a smart phone today. If content isn't easy to view at on their smart phone, you will lose your potential audience. What makes a website mobile-friendly? Text that is readable without zooming, content sizes correctly so users don’t have to scroll horizontally, and links are easily clicked.

Flash is Old & Has Major Security Issues
It'www.WebWisconsin.coms not just old, its ancient. 20+ years ago, Flash sites looked cutting edge. Today, they are a dinosaur. People want clean, beautiful and initiative. They don't want a lot of cheesy animation & hokey graphics. They want bright, cheerful, dynamic sites not a dark, old & dusty looking design. Flash makes a website look very dated but its much more than about the looks. The worst part about Flash is that it is unsafe. It has major security issues Flash has been quarantined, blacklisted, blocked and banned as far back as 15 + years ago!

What Do I Do?
So, what do you do next if you have a flash website? Simply put: Move!
Hire someone to redesign your website as soon as possible away from Flash to a more modern design & platform.
